History
The history of CCS is marked by steady
growth
and significant community
impact:
• Registration: The Stores was officially registered by the Registrar of Co-operative Societies
on December 15, 1962.
• Official Opening: The Stores started functioning with effect from February 7, 1963.
• Initial Location: It was housed in a rented building in the heart of the Aberdeen Bazaar. The
Stores was formally opened by the then Chairman, Shri. B. K. Halve, Deputy Commissioner.
• Early Success (1962-1964):
• By June 30, 1963, the Stores had 971 members and a paid-up share capital of Rs. 28,620.00.
• The average monthly sales, which were about Rs. 23,000/- in the first four months, reached
approximately Rs. 90,000/- by June 30, 1964.
• The net profit earned during the year 1963-64 was Rs. 23,146.66, a significant increase from
the Rs. 8,092.71 Pe. earned in the first partial year (1962-63).
• Expansion:A key landmark in its history was the opening of a branch at Haddo, fulfilling the
desire of the working-class population in that area. The Government also allotted a plot of land
and made Rs. 37,500/- available for the construction of a Shop-cum-godown there.
• Market Impact:The Stores successfully registered good progress despite keen competition,
extending the real benefits of a Consumers' Co-operative to the public. It was noted to have a
considerable impact on the market, holding the price line and stabilizing market conditions,
thereby reducing the chance of heavy price fluctuations
